Anyone can participate on Mandela Day in any way they wish, such things as helping to feed the hungry and homeless, going to visit an old age home or somebody who maybe sick in hospital or bed-ridden at home. There are just so many needs and social issues around us that if we all play a part and do a little bit we can make a huge difference on a global scale. This initiative is designed to help people embrace Mr Mandela’s values and make a difference in the world around us by identifying issues and addressing problems or needs of those in the community.

The worldwide respected leader affectionately known by those who love him as “Madiba” dedicated his life to change and serving South Africa and its people so we are now urged to take this legacy forward. Many will be devoting 67 minutes to doing community service on July 18th to celebrate the great leaders 67 years in politics. We urge you to open your eyes and identify an area and people within your community that needs help that you can give and get involved with Mandela Day as we all contribute and celebrate by giving our time on Nelson Mandela’s Birthday July 18th.

Many will appreciate that Quantum Of Solace portrays James Bond in a continually different direction than the agent of old and the new movie presents us with the satisfyingly solid crunch of metal on metal as real cars, boats and planes collide. The rougher, tougher style of 007 has become believable thanks to Daniel Craig’s natural rough and buff looks and appearance.

The title song is by Jack White and Alicia Keyes which seems a little anachronistic when you first hear it but it is a perfect hark back to the origins of Bond in the early 1960’s. Similarly the new noir take on the franchise is closer to the tone of the original novels than ever before.

This sequel to Casino Royale is slick and visually entertaining even though there are fans who will no doubt miss the tongue-in-cheek trademarks of the Roger Moore type agent. We feel that 007 has become a great action hero for grown-ups so if you get the opportunity, head on down to your nearest Sterkinekor Movies to catch Quantum Of Solace, the latest James Bond flik, as soon as you get the chance.

Local fashion designers and labels will benefit from having the most beautiful women in the world here in South Africa including the likes of Marianne Fassler, Stoned Cherrie, David Tlale, Palesa Mokubung, Tiaan Nagel and Lunar. Pageant fashion director Adam Levin said they “pulled out all the stops” in a very short time to bring to life the organiser’s vision of an Afro-contemporary opening sequence. “There’s never been a more exciting platform for South African Designers – more than two billion viewers,” he said.

Johannesburg was chosen ahead of the UK and last year’s host, China, as the venue for the hastily relocated event. Miss World pageant boss Julia Morley said the city stood out because of its infrastructure. Lindiwe Mahlangu, chief executive of Johannesburg tourism, said the city had jumped at the chance to host Miss World, after organisers decided it was too dangerous to stage it in the Ukraine, when war broke out between Georgia and Russia in July. It is exciting to know that along with the football world cup coming to SA in 2011, that we are also having the most beautiful women in the world now visiting South Africa shores.

Getting further into the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace and forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Agent 007 to the beautiful but feisty Camile, played by the gorgeous Olga Kurylenko, a woman who has her own vendetta. Camile leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene, a ruthless business man and major force within the organisation.

This latest 007 pretty much takes off where the previous Casino Royale ended and picks things up literally days later. We are positive that South Africa’s Sterkinekor cinema’s will be packed out for the ever popular action packed adventure flick, especially with the holidays fast approaching. As with most previous 007 films, expect the new James Bond movie Quantum Of Solace starring Daniel Craig to be a blockbuster hit.

Chapman pleaded guilty to the murder of John Lennon and is still currently serving a life sentence in Attica Correctional Facility, New York for the killing. According to Chapman, he had voices in his head instructing him to kill the former Beatles star and musician. A campaign against gun violence was launched to mark the anniversary of John Lennon’s death in the United States by his widow Yono Oko.

Over the years many famous people have given personal tributes to the former Beatles songwriter John Lennon. “I Just Shot John Lennon” was a song wrote by the Cranberries from their “To The Faithful Departed” CD. U2 brought out a live DVD called “Live From Boston” which has a version of their song “Bullet The Blue Sky” on it describing Lennons death. Other references in songs to the murder are sung by Marilyn Manson, The Chameleons, Eighteen Visions and Half Man Half Biscuit.

Memorials and tributes are set up in different places around the world including New York’s Central Park where the “Stawberry Fields” garden area is located and also in the city of Liverpool where Lennon was born and raised. Fans gather together religiously on the 8th December every year at these locations and others to remember John Lennon’s death and perhaps more importantly, his life.

Originally it was announced that The Spice Girls were going to be headlining Mandela’s Birthday bash as he was reported to have a deep admiration for the popular girl band.

Although Eminem has been out of the public limelight for some time now after announcing his retirement in 2005 he has apparently been working on some possible new material for a new album.

“We’re amazed to have Eminem on board. We wanted some of the greatest artists from recent times and Eminem was on the list.” – quoted from an inside event organiser. If it turns out to be true that Eminem will be joining Nelson Mandela on stage at his 90th Birthday Party Celebration then the rapper will be performing along side other stars such as Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Keane and Razorlight to name a few.

There are one or two strange stories going around as to why Roy Orbison wore the dark sunglasses but the one realistic reason as to why this rock and roll legend was always seen wearing them is this. He once left his regular glasses behind after leaving to take a plane on the East coast of America. When he boarded the plane he was wearing his dark prescription glasses. Because he had forgot his others, when they landed he had to keep the dark glasses on even though by this time it was dark.

Apparantely, his record management thought it gave him a mysterious kind of look and from then on and because of that incident the dark sunglasses became Roy Orbisons famous trademark.

Out of interest, Roy Orbison grew up in Texas and was born on April the 23rd 1936. He became one of Rock and Rolls greatest legends during his singing career with songs like “Crying”, “Only The Lonely”, “Pretty Woman” and “I Drove All Night” amongst many hits. He had an excellent singing voice and was respected by many bands, pop and rock stars alike. Roy Orbison sadly passed of a heart attack in the month of December 1988 although his memory lives on through his timeless music and wonderful songs. To this day there are documentaries and music videos being aired on television channels around the world of Roy Orbison singing those wonderful hits on stage with a guitar and of course his trademark dark sunglasses.

Hewitt is a talented actress and singer/songwriter and very well known for the role she played in the movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and the follow up. She can also be seen on a regular television programme in the states and elsewhere around the world called “Ghost Whisperer”. Other television roles Jennifer Love Hewitt has appeared in include “Party Of Five”, “Boy Meets World”, “American Dreams” and “Saturday Night Live”.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is actually considered as a pop star in Japan where her first album was released at her tender age of 12 years old, although after little further success with her singing career, Hewitt has mainly focussed on her acting abilities.

Since 1997 Jennifer has made it into the top 100 sexiest Women in the world polls according to the readers of FHM magazine and in 1999 was voted in Maxim’s magazine as the sexiest Woman in the world. Since her early acting career she has been nominated for many artist awards and has managed to win a few of them. Wont go home without you is the 3rd single from Maroon 5’s ‘It won’t be soon before long’ album, the follow up album to 10x platinum award winning ‘Songs about Jane’. Inspirations for the Maroon 5 pop sound are among the likes of Micheal Jackson, Talking Heads and Prince. This latest album is a real good listen with more aggressive and upbeat songs recorded than maybe one has come to expect from Maroon 5 and they have certainly managed to capture emotions associated to the song lyrics with brilliance.

This popular group have captured fans from across the globe with their hooky songs, solid bass lines and Adam Levin’s front man style and delivery. It is easy to see why they are growing into such a massively famous band and Maroon 5 won’t go home without you is surely one of the singles that is helping them achieve this.

U2 continue to write hit rock songs, tour the world and perform on stage for the fans and Bono is still singing and touching people with U2 songs such as “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Where The Streets Have No Name”.
